  When Joyce was a child her mother did a runner with another man leaving the child to be brought up by an aunt This truma affected Joyce throughout her life After an interval of 60 years another family member located the mother living in Devon and nearby were two half sisters previously unknown When Joyce visited she felt herself unmoved and incapable of any filial affection The suspicion existed that the old lady may have been seeking someone to care for her in old age Nothing further developed to enliven this sad episode and when the mothed died there was no legacy for Joyce
